Melissa Munar

Hi, I’m Melissa.

I study product design. I develop products that go beyond function and create an emotional connection to everyday life. I’m interested in how closeness can emerge through form, behavior and small details in use.

Cremini

Cremini is a wooden bowl that translates a parquet pattern into three-dimensional form. Beginning with a grid-based geometry, the design evolves into an organic silhouette reminiscent of the cremini mushroom. Turned from maple wood, the final object sits at the intersection of mathematical structure and natural expression.

The project investigates how a strict geometric system can generate a softened, functional form without losing the logic of its origin.

Taku

Taku is a modular play stool that combines seating with playful social interaction. The wooden frame forms a seat into which nine padded cubes are inserted. These can be easily removed and arranged to form a tic-tac-toe game. Additionally, two removable floor cushions are included, which can be stored inside the stool’s frame.

The goal of the project was to design an upholstered stool in which an additional function is immediately apparent and intuitively evident from its form and construction.

Plantfriend

Plantfriend is a digital moisture sensor designed in the form of a ladybug. The choice of form draws on the ladybug’s role as a familiar and well-loved creature of the garden, creating an immediate visual connection to nature and plant care. Embedded in the soil, it gives plant owners clear feedback about humidity levels through a simple emotional display, appearing sad when the soil is too dry and happy when moisture is sufficient. Subtle animations such as blinking eyes and moving antennae bring the device to life.

The project explores how emotional design can shape everyday behaviour and encourage more consistent care.
